O oddelení

Oddelenie VILA (Vitrum Laugaricio), spojené pracovisko ÚACh SAV, TNUAD a FChPT STU sa sústreďuje na štúdium vzťahov medzi zložením, štruktúrou a fyzikálnymi vlastnosťami anorganických nekovových materiálov. Špeciálnym zameraním sú oxidové sklá, sklotvorné taveniny a príprava nových typov skiel.

Ďalej sa oddelenie venuje vývoju priehľadnej luminiscenčnej keramiky (napr. Y2O3, YAG-ytrito-hlinitý granát, YAG/Al2O3) so špeciálnym zameraním na zhutňovanie skiel so zložením YAG alebo YAG/Al2O3 viskóznym tokom a s následnou kryštalizáciou. Výskum zahŕňa charakterizáciu mikroštruktúry, mechanických a optických vlastností ako aj štúdium vzťahov medzi zložením, štruktúrou a vlastnosťami pripravených polykryštalických materiálov.
